Think you could help Redditch Nightstop? |
| Millennium
Volunteers Carol a Millennium Volunteer who is about to enter university to gain Social Worker experience is heading up our resettlement team. Which consists of 6 faithful volunteers who have took on a parental role, mentoring our young clients who have recently gone into their own bedsit/flats. The volunteers meet their key client once a week for a coffee and a chat and to see if they need any support, fortnightly the team meet to identify if there are any practical tasks that the clients need help with. Local agencies come and talk to the team giving advice on Housing Benefit issues etc. The clients really appreciate having a 'friend' to share the experience of measuring up for their first set of curtains, find a cheap place to stop and budgeting for the first time. |
| Become
a Nightstop Host Hosts provide accommodation for you homeless people on a one night at a time basis. As well as a bed young people receive the chance of a bath or shower, and evening meal, breakfast and the opportunity to talk to someone. They leave the next morning to go to a follow up agency. Host can offer accommodation as often as they wish. |
| Support
for Volunteers The staff and Management Committee provide wide-ranging support for all Nightstop volunteers. A member of staff will telephone a host after a young person has stayed to check that the 'Nightstop' went well for both parties. Regular meetings, training events and mailings keep hosts and volunteers in touch with developments within the project and provide opportunities for mutual support. In addition hosts receive 24 hour emergency phone support. At present we have 8 host families available and trained in Nightstop practices. This year they all took part in First Aid (life skills), Drug Awareness and HIV training. We hope to introduce training in listening skills and mental health. Six prospective hosts start their training in July with a visit from the Social Services Child Protection Team. |
