What is a Host?

Host families/people are volunteers who open their home up to young people aged 16-25 years old on a night by night basis.

What is Supported Lodgings?

A supportive lodgings provider will open their home up to the young person aged 16-25 years old for a period of 6-9 months.

Who needs a host/supported lodgings?

A young person who is unable to stay at home and does not have the support of their parents or families. These young people are often vulnerable, they can become isolated and lonely and many have not had the chances other young people have has so may have missed out on some education or social opportunities.

The host provide a safe and secure environment while the staff secure permanent accommodation for the young person to move onto.

The supportive lodgings provides more long term living accommodation therefore developing the young persons living skills and assists them in gaining independence.

What is needed from a host and a supported lodging provider?

• Spare room and a willingness to share your home with a young person
• An understanding and respect for young people and their needs
• A caring and secure environment
• Patients and compassion
• A willingness to work alongside Nightstop support staff
• A willingness to undertake a criminal records check and other safeguarding checks

Nightstop will provide:

• 24 hour on call support
• Relevant training

Host and supportive lodging providers are never alone, when they have a young person to stay there is always someone on the end of the phone to offer any advice or support to the host and the young person.
